I need to clean out my outbuilding here in NM where there's a risk of inhaling hanta virus dust (mice). The CDC website gives instructions that include wearing a respirator but I cannot find one in Home Depot that specifies protection for *harmful* dust. Anyone have a model # or know where to buy this type of respirator?

If you look online, 3M has a fantastic 12 page bulletin detailing all of the exposure hazards from hantavirus. it also provides recommendations for respirators, which you can then order online from many safety equipment companies that are available by googling. BTW, respiration is not the only avenue for contracting hantavirus, so make sure you have adequate protection for other areas as well, such as a coverall and gloves, etc.

Thank you for the tip about the 3M website. At Home Depot, no one helped. I phoned 3M from my cell and they said to get a respirator for lead paint removal. Will check out their website but also the CDC again.

You should look for HEPA filtration or N100 respirators. That's half of the consideration. Making sure it fits your face and you wearing it properly is the other half.
