the portico is original.

the block walls are being reinforced, unless I take the suggestions here and cancel my entire hurricane project that Ive been working on for the last 3 years.

<shrug> It is your house. Perhaps this picture shows what the relative dangers are. Note the flimsy entrance cover in pristine condition, then look to the left to see the tree crushing the end of the house.



We all have concerns that are out of proportion with reality, causing us to overcompensate or turn a blind eye. I'm no exception. However, I DO have experience with hurricanes. If you are attempting to protect your home from a real hurricane, you first have to objectively look at what hurricanes do and how they do it.

Another thing to consider is that if your porch roof comes off during a hurricane, you're out maybe $1-2,000 worth of repairs. It seems like your time and money would be better spent on the main body of the house. That small porch isn't going to catch a lot of wind to where uplift would be a big issue.
