This is a bit of an argument with my husband & me. We don't use it that often. I wanted to keep it in the cabinet and only take it out when we use it since we have very little counter space. He wants to keep in on the counter. So, it is on the counter-with a bunch of paper plates on it (with those wicker plate holders). One day when we used it, he left the plates on it. Luckily I caught it before it caught fire. Hopefully, he has learned his lesson and make sure nothing is on top when he uses it.

But, to answer the question-I wouldn't use it in a cabinet. It should be in an open area-like a counter.

You can keep it there, but not use it there.

Ours is in a cabinet. It gets pulled out & placed on the counter top when it is used, then cleaned and stowed.

We got rid of ours and just use the oven. We had a small kitchen with almost no counterspace at the time and rarely use/used it anyways.

My endearing dil has zero appliances sitting out. Ppl assume that she does not cook...bake ...or entertain. She is meticulous.

Instead she has two pantries. One for all the food and another that can be the kitchen aide showroom!
I laugh in a good humour way...she literally could start a restaurant with every gadget conceivable. Guess her not keeping things on the counter got ppl to buy her all those things, thinking she didn't have any.

She stores her toaster oven in the pantry. Uses it...cools it ...and neatly stores it again.

On the counter pushed back into a corner. Pulled forward when in use so nothing gets too hot around it. I use mine almost daily. Rarely use the big oven. I wouldn't put mine in an open cabinet.

My ex and I had a similar argument. I donated it to good will and problem solved.

I do this for most of my kitchen mini appliances. But I have a good size pantry.

I wouldn't use it while it was still in the cupboard. Too much heat.
That's a good idea. Maybe the OP could store it on the shelf and put it on the counter when in use.

I keep mine on my kitchen counter. Where I lived before I kept it on a large baker's rack since I didn't have a lot of counter space, but it was like an open shelf. I don't use mine too much, just to lightly toast my breakfast bagel and to reheat leftover pizza maybe once a month.
