And the alternative is anarchy? There are always about 10% of people who have zero respect for their neighbors especially in regard to pets. Dogs being allowed to relieve themselves in elevators or in the middle of sidewalks. Unleashed Pit Bulls in areas where children and toddlers are playing. On and on.

There's a Federal government, a State government, a county government, and typically a municipal government. Not having an extra pseudo-government with all the powers but few of the restrictions of an actual government doesn't result in anarchy.

Please explain how 10% percent of a neighborhood misbehaving equals anarchy. Once again, here is an example of how the pro HOA posters are given over to hyperbole.

There are unsavory extremes on either end of the spectrum of HOA vs non HOA neighborhoods. All I can tell you is that I've never had a problem with an HOA and prefer investing in and living in a neighborhood with a low key, low cost HOA.

And you many never have a problem with one until you do and perhaps you will change your tune.

It is unfortunate that HOAs are needed. If each resident could be depended upon on to be a good neighbor and respect property values HOAs wouldn't be necessary.

Sure they would, how else would a condo run?

Good Lord, HOA's are not just about this. We actually have a dog park in ours.

Sorry any more discussion on this is like beating a dead horse. Wish we had a dead horse emoji. Then it could just get posted every time one of these threads get open.

I would bet my last dime the majority of people who are anti HOA's have never lived in one or lives in a cheap crappy one.

And I might never have a problem outside an HOA (for instance, puppy mill or geodesic dome home going up next door) until I do, and then I'd be wishing for an HOA again.
