I had my floors replaced today. Floor guy took up toilet and then put it back. He flushed it about 6 times, no problems no water.

I go up there tonight and there is a small puddle of water near the water supply line. Supply line isn't dripping.

It could be the tank washers. The drip would be on the bottom of the screws that attach tank to bowl.

Waterline-
Connection at valve
Connection at tank

Tank to bowl connection bolts/washer

Flush valve to tank

If it's none of the above; he probably didn't install a new wax ring.

If it mysteriously goes away it might of been condensation on the tank because he flushed it so many times and really cold water was in there. Generally that is something else to check but more of a summer problem especially if it's humid and hot, flush and check the tank for condensation after about 20 minutes.

This was problem at our house because the well water is so cold, condensation will form on a glass of water at my house if the water was running long enough.

Most likely it's the wax seal. I've seen this many times. Whever a toilet is removed, it normally needs a new wax seal under it. Some toilets require an extra thick (heavy duty) wax seal. Many times the thicker seal is required after flooring like tile is layed down because the gap between the toilet and pvc flange increases. Need to dry it up and look around it with a flashlight. Water does some weird stuff sometimes and can run down areas making it look like it's coming from somewhere else.

The water is from the toilet bowl via the rubber gaskets. These gaskets sometimes need time to expand(yes) to be totally waterproof. Wait a day or so and if there is still a leak then ever so slightly tighten the bolts only a slight amount very little to avoid cracking the bowl. If the original gaskets were used then replace with new gaskets.

Interesting you should post this. I left one in the bathroom last night to see where the water was actually coming from.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I left a dry paper towel in there last night and the water is definitely dripping from the tank, but the water line is also wet. Checked washer and bolt for the tank and that didn't help much---still slight leak.

As far as the water line, I can't tell if the water is dripping from tank and hitting the line and then dripping further or if the line itself has a leak.

Also, talked to the floor guy and he insists he put a new ring in. The floor height was lowered (went from ceramic to vinyl). Interestingly, the old flooring was definitely wet behind the toilet. I guess I just didn't notice anything earlier?

Anyway, this toilet is from the early 80's. I'm just going to replace the whole thing.
