I was reading about SimpliSafe. It makes a big deal that it connects to the outside world via cell connect so thieves can't cut the phone line and disable the system before breaking in. Ok, but how does SimpliSafe work inside the house? Wifi. And how do you get Wifi? Cable. It is actually easier to find the cable box outside the house than the phone lines. So, that carefully laid out grid inside the house can be disabled in two seconds before they even set foot in the house. Am I missing something?
You can have an active wifi network inside your house that interconnects components on the premises without an internet connection to the outside world. The various components in the system can "talk" to each other and with the cell connector to the monitoring service without being connected to your ISP.

Yes you are. The connection to the monitoring service is cellular. The connection to the sensors is not WIFI, that would take way too much power. It is proprietary, think LORA, SIGFOX, Zigbee, Zeewave etc. Now there are some fairly simple techniques that could be used to jam those sensors, but I'm not going into that here. Safe to say cutting the cable will not be enough to defeat the system.

I just watched their video and you are correct. There is no connection to the home wifi. In a way, it is sort of backwards though. I can't monitor and control the home from the outside. In this day and age, home automation is mostly online. Not sure what the solution is.
