I'm thinking of good quality 6 ft wood privacy fence with galvanized metal posts, except in the front where fence goes to the house on the sides....wood with black steel gates, or the entire length from sides to house black steel gates.
I like the idea of vinyl, since it would be impervious to water (I would think). I could check on the pricing for that...I think that's pricey, but in the long run, if it doesn't rot, it would be cost effective in the long run.
Personally I consider fences to be tacky. That said, I can understand fencing in a backyard for pets, children, and privacy. To me fencing in any other area is still tacky, especially the front.

Thanks!
I have vinyl fencing all along the back of my property. I don't particularly like it though because it reflects the sunshine and makes the backyard feel hotter. Another thing that's hard to get used to when you first have it installed is that any birds flying overhead make large shadows on the fence. For the longest time I'd duck down thinking a pterodactyl was coming after me.
The one I have is white and it does get dirty but it's easy to wash and hose off.

My vinyl fencing had as an option, a non glossy surface. Those fences should be faced with and/or interrupted partly, here and there, by shrubbery - they look better that way and btw, you don't use weed whackers in shrubbery. That fence hoses off very easily, including bird pook.
Theres a metal grid and wooden fence that we see a lot of these days, it looks nice to me, and is pretty cheap (especially if you can get a deal on the lumber- we used floor joists from the local reclaimed lumber warehouse here). Here are some pics....
the wire is hog wire available at feed supply stores, its very rigid and I like it because you can grow climbing vines along it...

I guess I'll be sitting in our backyard with a Margarita watching the deer in the woods through our "trashy" chain link fence (that we haven't had to touch in over 30 years and still looks new) while you guys are powerwashing the green goo and schmutz off your vinyl fences and staining/painting/replacing your wood fences (for the third time).

Yeah you can't beat chainlink for durability and longevity. Im 37 years old and my grandparents house has had the same chainlink fence around the backyard since I was a child. I do think the black ones look better though.
Those vinyl fences do not hold up, they eventually will turn yellow due to the sun, and strong winds often blow them away.

Vinyl PVC fences are disgusting!!!! I think they look very trashy and tacky!! Not to mention that they are unbelievably toxic and an extreme health and environmental hazard. They should be banned here like they are in Europe! Nothing wrong with a chain link that's in good shape!! They don't block the view and block the wind and sun the way those nasty PVC fences do! Enjoy your deer-watching!
