Oil burner worked great all winter. Yesterday it underwent routine maintenance per service contract. This morning I awoke to a filled oil filter -- glass jar with a red cap -- that overflowed onto the floor. I'm afraid to start the furnace now. HELP!

Can you take a picture? Either the bleeder screw is loose or fell out,or the gasket is not sealing around the jar that holds the filter. Shut the boiler off along with closing the valve from the oil tank until the problem is solved.

They're always filled (same as a car oil filter)

It's probably just a loose fitting.

But definitely call the oil supplier in.

My stupidity in not knowing that they're always filled.

Totally without talent or common sense in the world of blue collar.

Anyway, the tech came and simply tightened the nut in the center of the cap. The techs who serviced it yesterday apparently didn't tighten it sufficiently. Ran the unit for 10 minutes without further "leakage." Weather's unseasonably warm today so I'll keep it shut off and enjoy the Saturday without this worry.

Try it again tomorrow and see what happens ....

As usual, thanks guys.
