I have used SiriusXM radio from inside houses with metal roofs, and the regular internal antenna had to be placed at a south-facing window. It greatly limited where I could use the radio. This is still the case.
It looks like external antennae are made for more flexible placement when living in a metal-roofed house. How good are they, what models are better than others, and what does installation require? I am using an old XM radio, maybe one of the original models, and does this matter if using an external antenna? I would think not, but you never know what kinds of forced "upgrades" companies use on customers.
i use one of these they really work wonders though you'll have to buy the RG-6 cable seperate. but well worth it for full signal 24-7. i wouldn't even mess around with el chepo antenna they give you.
I called Crutchfield, whose rep said a very popular external antenna will work with my old XM receiver/dock and my stereo amp. Since he has not yet e-mailed me some other info, I will call again.
That amplified pro unit looks interesting. I'll ask if it is worth the additional cost. Weatherproofing is a must since we get snow, rain, high wind, and temperature extremes, but I would think any external antenna is weatherproof.
