Our refrigerator is only 4 years old and I am repairing it for the 2nd time. First repair was the defroster got clogged and leaked water on the floor due to a badly designed valve. Cost $20 for the valve but took me 6 hours to put it in.
Now the automatic ice maker quit working. I ordered a replacement from Amazon, but selected it based on the model of the refer rather than the exact part number. Amazon sent the wrong part, it did not fit so I returned it.
So this time I removed the old part, got the number of it directly off the part, and ordered a replacement using that #. But Amazon sent a different part than the one I ordered. It looks similar and may fit but it is definitely a different #. But maybe this is an upgrade to the old part #? There is nothing in the box to indicate why they sent a different part but the paper work indicates that they filled the order for the part # I requested.
My refrig is a KitchenAid, but the part is actually made by Whirlpool. I heard that all US refrigerators are actually made by Whirlpool and just rebranded.
I am posting this to see if anyone else finds that Amazon is not very reliable when it comes to refrigerator parts. Although it might be Whirlpool that is giving Amazon the wrong part since it actually is coming from Whirlpool. At any rate, it is a pain. They could be more communicative about the parts and upgrades.
