2008- Bought a foreclosure in a suburb north of Charlotte, NC for $113K. Put about $20K into cosmetics (not because I wanted upgrades, but it was a foreclosure.) Had a terrible realtor who gave me terrible advice. Ended up selling it for $115K after 9 months in 2013 and I had to pay all of the closing costs. Same floor plan, same street fewer upgrades sold in two weeks for $135K. Now, judging by comps, it would go for about $150K.

Tampa - 2012

93k - with the seller paying closing costs ($4,500).
1700+ sq ft, 3 beds, 2 1/2 baths, 1/2 acre with a fireplace.

Foreclosed house. Outdated and needed cleaning, but no serious damage.

Previous sale was over 225k.
Now smaller houses in the neighborhood are selling for almost 2x of what we paid

Year: 1977
Zip Code: 11942
Style: Cape Cod (New build)
Sq Ft: 988
Lot: 2/3 acre
Rooms: 2 Bed 1 Bath
Price: $42,000

Current value: Zillow and Redfin average $511,500, probably $75k too high. House appears basically unimproved and unmaintained.

Inflation calculator shows $42,000 in 1977 is worth $169,000 today.

1995 in the Detroit burbs, paid 55k. We sold it during the boom in 2001 for a 100k. It is still kept up despite the neighborhood looking rough. Probably worth 40 to 50K now. Circle of life in real estate I guess.

3/1.5 1150sqft brick house built in 1960, small town south AL. I bought it when I was 19 years old for $41k, but it was a foreclosure and it appraised for $55k (this was back in 1999). It was a decent little house, only downside was it had galvanized pipes that were rusty.

Left side of house was an open carport when I owned it.

Suburb of Minneapolis, MN. 77,000.00 1990.Two bed one bath unfinished basement, can add 1bath 1-2 in basement split level.

My parents in a more desirable suburb purchased in1959 3 bed 1 bath 17,000. Their payments were $125. Dad took home $500-600. I think it appraised about 260,000 now. Is 4b x 2 bath now.

My first home was in the a brand-new Denver suburb. We were the 4th family to buy in that subdivision back in 1966.

The house was all-brick, 1100 sq ft, with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a full basement. It cost $10,500 and the builder gave us our choice of a new washer-dryer set or a 27" color TV at closing.

In 2010 in a small little town 27 miles away from work I bought a doublewide mobile home with a separate 2 stall garage on it's own land for $38K. I ended up selling it for break even a year later, tired of commuting 30 minutes each way.

I rented from 2011 to 2016, while searching for homes and learning about home inspection from about 2013 onward.

Last October my first real house, paid $120K at auction. Been improving the outdated elements slowly. All the expensive stuff was taken care of. I could sell it for $175K right now, because I got a good price for it. I could have got it for $105K but the auction people held a conference when nobody would bid higher and convinced somebody to go higher. Oh well.

3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1400 square foot ranch, with a 1400 square foot basement that has family room, 2 bonus rooms that are bedrooms, 2 additional rooms, one is a workshop/weight room and the other is furnace and storage. Located 7 miles from work. Nice, well landscaped yard with a number of mature maples that are beautiful but do like to spread their roots and try to put up suckers in spots I don't mow. I've been replacing the rotting wood landscape elements with bricks and planting more shrubs and cleaning up the stone landscape rock along the house. Going to pressure wash various elements here soon. Since I took that picture the shutters were replaced with new black ones, the shrubs to the right of the front door were removed as that's a very shady area that gets a ton of leaves that collect there. The house was built in 1977 but it appears to be modular.. there's a thick section that goes down the center that can only be explained that way. It's built pretty well.
