Purchased a new wool looped rug in a beautiful light gray with a white geometric pattern on it. I unrolled it so that it could breathe and flatten out. I placed in a secondary room out of the way. Apparently my Wheaten Terrier visits that room. I don't know this may be her own private oasis when she is tired of us all. She also must have found a black sharpie pen she decided to take with her to her Zen oasis to chomp on for awhile and contemplate doggy life. Needless to say some days later I've discovered she chewed up a black sharpie and it got on the brand new rug in two concentrated areas.

Is there a way to get it out? If so HOW?

P.S. this dog has it made and is loved by all so please don't think we are literally re-homing her because of this. No offence to the animal lovers out there just a tongue in cheak remark about the new real estate!

I would consider taking it to a professional cleaner.

Sharpie is soluble to solvents, but the problem is that the dye in your rug might also be soluble..

You could certainly try some over the counter cleansing products (spray foam "rug/upholstery" cleaners) but they're more about lifting dirt/mild stains, than concentrated ink/dye.

And I think it's awesome that your wheaton has it's own little zen paradise where it can munch on a sharpie and contemplate the universe.

To be a dog!

LOL...try rubbing alcohol. But I would try it on an inconspicuous area of the rug first.

At least it was the sharpie and not other suspicious messes. You may just chalk it up to characterizing your rug. Like the wood floor shaped doggie space where your dog left an imprint. You know, after all those baths and being out in the sprinklers.

If you just can't get it all out give him another sharpie and get the blotches evened out. Call it her rug, her art, gush about it to friends and family and cherish it. !! Oh and don't forget the doggie treats.

Found this. I would try on a very small area first.

How to Get Marker out of Carpet | Spot Removal Guide

Good luck. What a cutie. He doesn't look 'Zen' at all. He looks like a real mischief-maker. The kind I love.

Yes. Sharpie pen ink is alcohol soluble. I know this because one my kids once decorated my dining room table with sharpie! Alcohol got the marks off. I don't know how well this will do after so long, but give it a try as lunetunelover suggests.
