I just changed the filter for the water dispenser in the door of our refrigerator.
How much water do I have to run through it before it's drinkable?

I've been through the manual and it doesn't say.
It also does not say anything on the packaging for the filter.

I guesstimated it last time ran about 4 gallons through. Seems like such a waste though.

Does anybody know for sure?

Recommended is 3 gallons, save it to water plants.

A lot depends on how dirty your water coming into the unit in the first place. The new filter may have some minute dirty particles in it. So as above state 3-4 gallons of water that you can recycle to the yard/garden.
Our manual says for the ice cubes to run 3-4 trays through before using ice again.
