This whole thing is absurd. Any reasonable handyman can connect three wires and install an overhead lamp. If he can't he is incompetent.

Basic rule. Do not hire incompetents...at the handyman or full contractor level. You will inevitably regret it.

I couldn't get past the title! "BEWARE"- What? Am I suppose to beware the OP's "handyman"; or the $275 fixture that broke????
