Sometimes it may take awhile. Son's friends had a slate pool table, not a really expensive one but nice. Was on Craigslist for months. Price started low and also b/o. No takers, then free, still no interest. They finally resolved to take to apart and throw away. What a shame, but they tried for 5 months.
We had a similar issue with a 25ft sailboat. Put it up on Craigslist for $5000. A few nibbles but no bites. We lowered the price to $4000. Again a few nibbles but no bites. We listed it on Facebook, put flyers up around town, but nothing. The last time I listed it on Craigslist, not only did we come down on the price, I put on the title "Eager To Sell." We FINALLY got a bite. Sold it for $3000. It is still in our driveway but we got a down payment on it and the deal was that it will be paid for and gone within 6 weeks. So, after THREE YEARS, it is finally sold! I guess putting "Eager to Sell" did the trick.
If you don't want to try Craigslist or put up flyers, like others said, donate it to a local school or maybe there is an organization that have charity auctions where you can donate it-but insist that they come and take it.
Donate it to a charitable organization and take the tax write off.
I have NO clue how people manage to get into this situation. I'm closing in on 50, have owned several homes (2 at one time for awhile) and I don't think I've ever been within $3k of the standard deductions. But these suggestions always irk me, it's simply not a viable option for (I assume) the vast majority of people in this country. Actually, I just did a little searching and only roughly 1/3rd of the country would benefit from "tax write off" options (itemized deductions vs standard).
How about calling the local High School and donating it to the P.E. Dept? Or a local fire station or police station. Those folks do a lot of exercising. Or your local boys or girls club, or group home.
There are some great ideas here! Thank you so much..........!
