LOUDSPEAKERS
You can pick only two: [] small [] loud [] efficient.
. . . .
Sensitive (efficient) LOUD speaker cabinets will be large.
(FWIW : subwoofers rely on folded horns and ports to boost low frequencies)

+1 for *maybe* doing the pre-wire if they'll work with you to put the speaker connections in the *correct* locations .. and if they're not stupid on price.. builders usually are stupid on price though..

And understand that there's no magic in speakers- you need enclosures & amps & receivers that take up space if you really want good sound. Even if you properly mount (good) speakers in a wall or ceiling- you still need "stuff" outside the wall, taking up space to run them.

None of this needs to be expensive- definitely check out slick deals as the markups on audio equipment are stratospheric.

keep in mind with subs that is response in an anecohic chamber or someone else's room . the room is actually an extension of the enclosure with bass and response is very very different . most rooms cannot support much real low bass .

what we think is very low bass is actually the lower mid-bass range we here that stands out .

i used to do a sweep in all my rooms and the response compared to anechoic testing is totally different .

We used to do custom homes. Lots of customers simply wanted prewire to the structure and they brought in a music and so Be company. We would work with those guys and run the soecufuc wires where they specified locations.
The only reason was the builder wouldn't allow anyone to prewire a property unless they were a subcontractor. What the homeowner didn't u derstand was they didn't own the house until it was finished and loan closed. We were understanding as the customers were buying 1 million dollar plus houses (this was back in 2001) so we were willing to work with them. They had to buy the wire through our company. However we had the option to install the wires where the homeowner specified. I owned the company and I could make that decision. And it kept customers and the builder happy. And to me a wire from A to B is just like C to D. Doesn't make any difference

And most of those sound guys hated Bose. Not sure how good they are today. I have installed Onkyo, Harmon Kardon equipment. Speakers ran anything from Yamaha to Onkyo to some cheap no name crap.

that and my bedini class a amplifier were audio bliss on a pair of quad esl63's and a pair of janis subs .
