Attached are two pictures of a pole barn that was on our property when we bought it. It's divided into 3 rooms width-wise with the first room being a garage where the wall end approximately where the garage door ends. The next room is adjacent to that and is like a den/man cave and ends about 10 feet past the window. The last room is an unfinished room with a gravel floor. I would like to build a bathroom connected to the den so we don't have to walk back into the house.

We are on a septic system and the leach field is in the yard right next to the pole barn that you see in the view that shows the barns length. Where and how could you run a septic line for the bathroom? The convenient place would be right out that side but I don't think you can connect directly to a leach field without first going through a septic tank. Any plumbers knowledgeable on this subject out there?

"Where" and "how" is not your issue right now.
Your first question- to the AHJ- will be, "can I do this?" (would probably fall under a "best use" scenario). Your next issue will be feasibility- which will constitute site position, elevation, and overall distance.

Accessory buildings fall under lacks and very strict coding depending on your location and AHJ.

You absolutely would need to tie in to the septic tank, not directly to the drain field. The septic tank separates out the solids and paper, and only allows the water to enter the drain field.

So your distance to hook up is from the building, to wherever your septic tank is.
