the hole house protector tries to deflect a spike to ground away from your appliances . it is transparent to you , until it can't do it's job .

but surges and spikes can get very very powerful and many times the protector is just not enough to prevent to much from getting through .

you usually need multi levels to really do a great job of it .

many use mov's which get weaker and weaker with each jolt until you have no protection . like boxer taking punches many get their ability reduced with each hit .

My cousin lives in an area with electrical storms and those building and upgrading spend serious money on whole house protection...
