She is currently on week 4 of decorating for Christmas - her 4500 square foot house. EVERY room will have a fully decorated 6-7' tree, complete with lights and tree skirt. Now someone in the neighborhood has little 3 or 4 18" - 24" trees on their front porch - so guess what she's doing today - making 10 - yes 10 tiny tree skirts. If she had a huge party or huge family coming over for Christmas I could understand - but her only daughter is away at Grad School - will probably be back for 3-4 days - and it's just her and her husband. They don't invite the extended family over, go to her parents then his parents. She works herself sick some years and I just don't understand it. I like Christmas - but I barely decorate - because I don't have family and go to friends for Christmas dinner. Now they have between 25-40 people for Christmas dinner plus 8-10 dogs running amok outside - and they have 1 large tree and some decorations on the deck.
why would someone put themselves through this insanity???
Why do you care? Clearly she enjoys holidays. She's not asking you to make her decorations. She's not asking you to buy her decorations. She's not asking you to help her decorate. If she a decorated tree every 5 feet, who cares? It's her house. Many people find decorating their home relaxing and enjoy the look when it's all done.

Because they enjoy it. Why is that so hard to understand?

It doesn't sound enjoyable, but I guess it must mean something to her.

The OP said the friend complains about all of the decorating she has to do. I think that was an important piece of the post.

That was added after the initial post didn't get the reaction the OP probably expected. I see this a lot on CD. Add new, very important details if the thread isn't going your way.

I put colored light bulbs on our front light fixtures for the following holidays, with the following color schemes:
  • Halloween - Orange and Black
  • Thanksgiving - Orange, Yellow, and Red
  • Christmas - Red and Green
  • Valentine's Day - Red and Pink
  • St. Patrick's Day - Green (sometimes skipped if Easter falls on an early date)
  • Easter - Yellow and Pink
  • Fourth of July - Red, White, and Blue

It's really none of your business.

Find a passion in life. If you already had one you wouldn't notice or care what friends and neighbors are doing.
