I've never heard of such a code. If it even exists, it would be in a nanny state. But I would venture to say that the vast majority of the population can set up their bathrooms however they want.

I think some of its likely for FHA or VA financing...And when the state is underwriting the loan, the state can nanny a bit lol...
I grew up in a large family in a house that had a bathtub, but no shower. There was one bathroom. We couldn't take a bath in the morning, or the hot water would run out, so you had like 5 minutes in the bathroom with a wash towel. If in there longer, someone would be banging on the door. The house never did have a shower installed. It is great to have both a shower and a bathtub. If I had to pick, would go with the shower.
We just did it! The new shower is a walk in with only a 1/2" ledge which would allow wheeling in a shower chair if that is ever necessary as we age. We also put in a pull down seat. The new shower is larger than the tub shower was, which we love.
^^^this is one of the reasons we redid the guest bathroom with just a big shower stall, long as the bathtub was. Easy in and out if we need to put in a shower chair or a wheelchair, etc.
We have just a walk-in shower in the master bathroom and a standard bathtub with shower in the hall bathroom. No one uses the actual tub (other than to take a shower in). We did bathe the dog in it a couple times, but if you don't have young children and you don't like to take baths, it's probably not worth keeping. Resale is a consideration, of course.
Take the grandkids to the carwash for their baths??
Or hose them off outside!
