It's usually older homes (pre-WWII) that have bathrooms with windows; even in relatively modest homes. Which is good; I really like the idea of having fresh air coming in while, um..., sitting on the porcelain throne. Plus, during the day, you get natural light and save electricity. Most bathrooms in newer homes are windowless, however.

You are exactly correct.

I MEANT to say that high volume fans use energy in a couple of ways...

My home was built in 2014 and has a full size window that opens. The home we moved from (built 2006)also had a window in the bathroom, but it did not open.
