Had the capacitor replaced on our HVAC this summer when the AC went out. Worked fine all summer (which here goes into October).

Put the AC on today because it was warm and muggy on the second floor and....nothing. No air.

We're going back to winter weather tomorrow, any chance if this is the same issue it affects my system's ability to produce heat?

If it’s a heat pump it will affect the heat also. You may be able to use the auxiliary heat strips (aka emergency heat) but it’ll use a lot of electricity.

No it's not a heat pump.

A heat pump doesn’t look any different than a normal central a/c. Does the outside unit normally run when the heat is on? If it does it’s a heat pump.

When you say “no air”, are you saying even the blower inside isn’t working?

No, nothing is blowing.

We don't have a heat pump. I remember that from the inspection report when we bought the house, I know they are common in the south but we don't have one. It's gas heat. (thanks for your responses by the way).

If you just turn your blower fan on, does that work?

I don't know how to do that....you're talking to a complete idiot here. If I set the fan on the thermostat to "on" or "auto", either way nothing seems to be blowing.

Has someone shut the service switch off by accident? Or possibly the breaker needs resetting? Basically, can you confirm power to the furnace?

It was a blown fuse....which was another problem we had this summer and this time the tech told me that there was an issue with the wiring and he fixed that as well (it had become stripped and two wires were touching causing the fuse to blow).

Thanks all for responding.
