Had a new more powerful central vacuum unit installed and love it. Just installed a Rachio 8 zone sprinkler controller that is controlled with my smartphone. Just got a 10 camera security system, not installed yet. Installed new garbage disposal last week. Bought myself a new Weber natural gas BBQ with rotisserie waiting on plumber for hookup. Replaced about 20 dimmable recessed lights with LED's, about 20 more to go.
Bought years ago and so thankful to have it now that I have a lot of ceramic tile floors, that is, a Shark Steam Pocket Mop, and no need to spend a fortune on the pads, I bought these last year https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and they fit better than the originals.
I'm putting this in the House thread instead of the shopping one as I think it will be seen by more people who are working on their houses.
So tell me what have you bought recently for your house that you really like or would recommend? It can be a fixture, appliance, decoration or anything else that you put in your house
A hand-operated, wall-mounted, Swingaway can opener. It really works, as quickly as any electric one. I went through three electric models, none of which worked well and two broke down after a few months. Then I remembered the wonderful Swingaway that was in our family from before I was born and found a new one.
The hand-held Swingaway model also works well, if you can't find a wall-mounted one or to take on picnics or for camping.
After years of saying "I don't need one" I bought a food processer at Aldi for $19. Total impulse purchase. I love that thing. It's very useful. Optimal size, and has a small footprint.
I call it my "expensive food chopper." I coughed up $7 for the last manual food chopper I bought. Heck... $7, $19? - tomato, toe-mahto.

My old Swingaway handheld had died and the one I bought at Walmart was awful. It was hard to get it to puncture the can and so hard to turn the crank I had to use a screwdriver inserted in the crank to get extra leverage. We have several different brands at DH's office that are also hard to use.
Recently was at BBB and found a Swingaway there. Problem solved!
