My understanding is that the airflow through the gables "short circuits" air flow from the soffits.

My understanding of beating a dead horse is counterproductive...

It's still a dead horse!

If my comment had already been mentioned, then I apologize. I admit that I didn't re-read all 7 pages. Sheesh...

If you are selling ridge vent, all other forms of ventilation are inferior and/or unneeded.

Every house has to be reviewed in terms of its own situation.
I am more concerned with venting moisture or humidity from the attic than I am with cooling.

Update:

I had the re-roof done and ridge vent installed this week. The ridge vent is CertainTeed. Installation requires 3/4 wide cut each side of ridge beam.

My roofing contractor cut one side only. Obviously less labor. I called him out on it. He said it was good enough.

Opinions?

I also found a couple of pieces of ridge vent filter (bug and critter guard) on the ground.

called him on that also. Took a flashlight to the garage ridge from inside....yep.....missing bug filter.

Opinions? Yeah sure! Your roofer is an idiot! Reminds me of the first sentence I wrote in my first post of this thread.

Have him reinstall it correctly- according to manufacturers instructions. And hopefully you're still holding money!

The company rep is having the manufacturer call me to confirm my ridge vent was installed correctly (one side cut).

So the manufacturer is going to call you and say "yes; it was installed correctly". Their answer is based on the information that was given to them over a phone conversation- BS!

BTW- it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things if the decking was cut on "both" side of the ridge board- what really matters is the amount of open space to allow air to flow- and yes, there is a formula. And you're probably lacking the appropriate amount!
