I am no expert, but most of the stuff that I've read says that using gable vents and ridge vents together is counterproductive for ventilation.

If you are selling ridge vent, all other forms of ventilation are inferior and/or unneeded.
Every house has to be reviewed in terms of its own situation.
I am more concerned with venting moisture or humidity from the attic than I am with cooling.
So the manufacturer is going to call you and say "yes; it was installed correctly". Their answer is based on the information that was given to them over a phone conversation- BS!
BTW- it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things if the decking was cut on "both" side of the ridge board- what really matters is the amount of open space to allow air to flow- and yes, there is a formula. And you're probably lacking the appropriate amount!
