A sawzall and some duct tape, and bam, you have an access panel that stays in place

Any handyman should be able to do this for you. Do check to make sure it's not already there and just not obvious. We had a townhome with a jetted tub, and one of the faux marble panels was held in place with magnets. It wasn't noticeable at all, and if the builder rep hadn't shown us, we never would have noticed.

Mine has a removable tile held in place with magnets and color matched caulk.

Agreed.

Mine has a mini-sized panel. It's like your air filter in your living room but smaller. Everything is easily accessible.

Same thing happened with our gas fireplace -- the tile guys sealed up access to the pilot valve controls, and the darned home inspector never caught it. I found the goof only after we went on vacation and I had turned off the pilot. On return there was no way to relight! Hammer and chisel time...

Yeah, pretty common. People seal them up all the time. Annoying.
