Funny as I just read part of the post on lawn waste...well I was trying to get some seed going in
the back after removing/killing tons of weeds moss (it was getting ugly) and tried to get my timer connected but it is being blocked by a small white tube of plastic inside the faucet on the house. The Orbit timer has a cone shaped screen that goes right to the edge of the connector so this white piece is blocking it. Does not seem possible to push it in without bending the screen.
A quick look at the metal ring at the house and there doesn't seem like an easy removal. Maybe its some type of blow back valve? So how do you get a timer on that type of connection. I did search around but didn't find much.
What you have is probably the old type screw-on vacuum breaker/backflow preventer (see below); and you certainly don't want to remove that...
Do as previously mentioned- remove filter screen and add washer for tight seal.
