Well I decided to purchase the cub cadet xt1. 1399 minus 140 discount. I talked home depot into free shipping (80$ savings) came to 1369 with tax. I decided against the extended 3 year warranty. It has a 3 year manufacturer warranty and like I said a certified cub cadet shop is 4 miles from me.

So hopefully this thing lasts me at least 6 to 8 years

So in other words you are mowing a 1/2 acre lot?

Cub Cadet is made by MTD now, along with Troy Bilt, Bolens, Yard Machines, and many more.

My Cub Cadet LTX1050 is about 5 years old now, with around 300 hours on it. So far I have replaced one spindle assembly and a steering bushing, that’s it. I did break a drive belt last year, but only because a stick got jammed in it.

Noticing this year some oil leakage above the muffler, but that’s Kohler’s design, not Cub Cadets.

The key to longevity for any machine is taking super good care of it no matter the brand. Good care is way cheaper than anything else you can do.

TIP: not only is it necessary to do a good summer start up routine it is also VERY necessary to do a good winter shut down storage routine.

Tell everyone how to change the oil in these new hydrostatic transmissions.

I alluded to this point on page one...
but NONE of the current crop of lawn tractors can compare to what used to be sold...
and NONE of them will last like what used to be sold. LINK

What? It takes me 30 minutes to mow our quarter acre with a Honda self propelled push mower. I live in Alabama. If it's hot, maybe another 15 minutes for a few breaks in between. I find the best time to mow is about an hour before sunset as it's the coolest without dew all over the grass.

I don't want to talk you out of something you really want. But in my experience, I have a 1/4 acre lawn and had a small, rear engine riding mower. It was a pain to use in my yard. The tight turning, plus I have some fairly steep inclines. It broke down for the third time, I sold it to a buddy who likes to work on these types of things and bought a Kobalt self propelled battery push mower.

It's sweet, does the whole lawn without having to stop to recharge. It's fast, easy to store and gives a very nice finished cut. I live in SC and I know it's going to be hot here, but I'll just mow an hour before sunset when I have a lot of shade.

About $400 at Lowe's with your military discount.
