I did and I about fainted!!! we lived in the house from 1969 to 1974 and when we were back in town in 1992 - we drove by and noticed they'd added to the second floor - looked great. about 6 years ago I was talking to a vendor in the same town and told him I lived there - he asked me the address and sent me a picture and the property records. I cried and cried. It was heart warming to me to see, the current owners had changed the siding to cedar painted the front door red (my favorite color for a front door). the yard looked fantastic, still had some of the changes we made while we lived there. Brought back such fantastic memories - and I had no family to share it with... the biggest shock was the property value!! my parents bought it for $ 20,000 at the time and the last purchase was for $ 199,000!!! - Yes it was 42 years later and I understand everything is more expensive. but the actual dollar amount blew me away!

No way, my childhood was demolished to make way for apartments. We sold our long time home, in the Bay Area, a few years ago, we drove by & it was sad to see beloved bushes wilt & not taken care of, so no more drive bys. OTOH, we are lucky that our family still owns the cottages. in the Irish countryside, that our parents grew up in, so I see those every now & then.

I looked up the house my family nd I lived in from 1977 to 1982. It is a single family home with three bedrooms, one (mine and a sisters) that was he garage before remodeled. It is on the small side and looms really dated. It as built in 1960 according to the website.

It evidently has been remodeled a couple of more times. A carport was added in the 90s(from my research during that time) and subsequently removed. The back of the house looks different, a three sided window that wasn't there before. In addition, in the backyard, the perennial flower bushes (planted by the resident before us) are gone.

The house, IMO hasn't aged well and looks kind of sad. I think turning the garage into a bedroom cheapness the house (though we needed the space).

Maybe memories can't live up to reality?.

What about You? Ever looked up a former house? Have you been disappointed?
All the time. I moved to South Carolina in 91 from Massachusetts and when we go back we often will drive by to see any changes. Not much changed, they changed a few colors, paved the driveway and the town put in a sidewalk but other than that it looks the same. Happy to see it is well kept because we had finished the upstairs ourselves and my husband built a 2 story detached garage. I would like to see inside so I keep looking on zillow to see if they are selling. Facebook snooping shows me they might have painted the woodwork downstairs white. Same owners we sold to still live there. We moved from South Carolina to Florida and I still look at the house on google maps occasionally just to see if the bushes on the side of the house are continuing to die but I don't have a desire to go back and visit and have no reason. I have family in Massachusetts so have reasons to go back. My husband once visited the cottage his father built with my niece. They had stopped to look at the outside when the woman (daughter of buyer who bought it from his father back in the 60's) came out and he told her who he was and she invited him in. They changed nothing.

We sold my parents home two yeas ago. My parents bought it for $14,500 in 1959 we sold it for full asking price at $379,000. Last time we were up we did drive by but it hadn't changed at all that we could see. Don't know if they have done anything inside. It needed a lot of work but homes in the Boston suburbs are going for astronomical prices. I had always had ideas of expanding that 1,000 sq ft cape. I had no feelings though when it sold. It was a house and I was glad to be rid of it.

I'm glad they've updated the house and kept up the yard. That was the worst about my old house. Taking out the bushes may have been necessary. But the rest of the yard front and back looks horrible. No work done to it most of the grass unkept. Like it's fortunate there's any grass seed left at all. Oh well. Not my house anymore!

Still working on the other house, to see you where what it looks like. I don't even know where to look for other houses we lived in. Sure, I know the city's but have no idea what street or house number they were. Oh well, could be worse as I've seen!

Thanks for all the stories you've shared here. They really are fun to read. Keep 'em coming!

Wow. That is a big increase. Yes, you are right, just a house. Glad it sold well!

The little tract house I grew up in has been demolished along with about 500 other houses. It's really too bad because they were lath & plaster homes with oak floors and very nice backyards, built on cul de saks. They would have made perfect starter homes these days, except for the fact that the area is no longer residential and the schools have shut down too. The roads are all still intact, and a bunch of homeless people are living there since the area hasn't been redeveloped yet. Talk about sad!

I looked up the first house my husband and I bought together in 2001 and the subsequent owners have taken GREAT care of it and made some exterior changes that I wish I had thought of! It's a sweet old house.

Yes. The house I lived in between 2001 til 2014 was sold by my mom in 2016 and they painted it an ugly grey. Judging by google maps satellite view... they also got rid of all the grass in the backyard.. ugh!

Nah. I stopped counting at 32 different places where I've lived. For many places, I wouldn't remember the addresses any longer.

Instead of looking back (nothing wrong with that, I just don't), I like looking for new homes where I might live someday. Now I just have to wait for Cher to move out of that Malibu abode.
