Does anyone have any experience with roof coatings like RoofGuard? I'm looking to extend the life of the roof a few extra years before I have to replace it. I'm seeing where most roofing companies provide a 5 year warranty on the coating.

Cost would be about $800-$1500.

No. But the commercial reminds me why I don't buy STP and similar for my car.
My gut says it's a waste of money.

IME, roof coatings are worthless, a fresh slathering of tar or mastic around a flashing excepted.

More out of curiosity than anything, I tried applying a kool-seal product on top of my cement tile roof in Florida, carefully making sure that every single gap between tiles around a valley was filled and sealed. I might as well have laid down window screening, for all the good it did.

The whole concept goes back to something that was done years ago. If a roof had a leak, an old scrap of clothing or sheet or blanket was soaked in a paint solution and applied over the leaking area. If you've ever spent the night in an old paraffin coated canvas wall tent, you know how spotty that fix was.
