What can anyone tell me about installing "smart switches" on ventilation fans in various rooms around my house? Trying some modest ways to reduce moisture accumulation in a "hot roof" situation (long sad story...you probably don't want to know unless misery loves company).
I've heard there are timer types that you can set frequency and duration you want the fan to run during 24 hours, and also types that turn the fan on based on detecting some level of humidity. True? Do they also have manual overrides?
I am looking to put these on bathroom vent fans already present, installing a new bath vent fan with switch in the master bath (now only uses a window), but selecting one that will really be quiet at night. Also might put one in a kitchen, though there is a range hood that does vent to the outside.
I also need to install "fresh 80" vents in the walls of these rooms, correct?
The other steps I plan to take to reduce moisture is to put moisture barrier materials up inside every ceiling fixture electrical box (lights and ceiling fan) or anything else that pierced the ceiling drywall, check the paint to be sure it isn't cracked, or even repaint it.
