We recently received a high-end Dormia memory foam mattress as a wedding gift. We are using it with $3 king pillows from Walmart. Is it worth it to upgrade our pillows to something more high-end? I think I'd feel weird spending $50-$75 on a pillow.
If so- does anyone have any recommendations for nice pillows? Are memory foam pillows worth the price?
I'm chuckling because we just had that conversation yesterday when out shopping for a new mattress! We're actually going to buy a $50 pillow because we've spent much more than that in the past two years at WalMart for a number of pillows that just didn't last long. Our pick was a micro-gel pillow - queen-size, firm.
I would rather buy new fresh pillows every year than spend a lot and keep an old germy pillow around too long. I think you can get a great pillow for $20. that is perfectly fine.
We just buy our pillows at Macy's when they have the buy one get one for a dollar sale. Usually get a $20-$30 one and then get the other for the buck. We don't replace as much as one should...just whenever they start to get uncomfortable. (which mine never do...I could sleep without one, but hubby always seems to want a new set every year or so)
I must have the heaviest head ever. I go through pillows like there is no tomorrow. I have bought expensive ones thinking that they would last long but they didn't. My hubby is always asking me what do I do with my pillows.
A pillow will begin to have an odor no matter how often you change the cases, especially if you sometimes drool in your sleep. I'd rather buy cheaper ones and replace them often. I can't stand an old stinky pillow.
I only like overstuffed feather pillows -- not down feather, just feather. They're very expensive and difficult to find. Before receiving these pillows as a gift from my sister, I spent $70 each on four pillows at Mervyn's. They were the most expensive pillows they had and $70 was their sales price. They are/were too lofty of too soft for me. I need a pillow that is heavy and loaded with feathers.
I would say get whatever pillows allow you to get the best night's sleep. I'm not a back sleeper so those memory foam pillows don't appeal to me.
I, too, have bought pillows on both ends of the spectrum. If you're happy with the pillows for $3, I'd say stick with them. Your mattress doesn't know you skimped on the pillows A good night's sleep is what is important. Hubs has a high dollar pillow I bought in an effort to soften his snoring (btw: didn't work one iota) and I have a $10 from Walmart. I, personally, don't like the memory foam pillows, but that's my preference. Unfortunately, pillows are one of those trial and error things and we end up with oodles of them in the pillow graveyard.
Congrats on the wedding!
