I’m merely stating the ridiculous American obsession with grass

Color me perplexed. But to each his own.

Lots in my neighborhood are large. Ours is one of the smaller lots at 2/3 of an acre. I refer to mowing it with a mulching push mower as "my gym membership". It kills a good portion of a weekend mowing it. So brown and crunchy grass makes my heart sing.

Used to have lawn guys do my lawn. But I got tired of them mowing down stuff I repeatedly told them to leave alone (my spearmint patch!) and they destroyed anything and everything with their string trimmers. I had to replace every window well cover and plastic flower pot because they all had cracks and holes from the trimmers. So I grumble and do the lawn myself and get a little exercise. All while fantasizing how my next house will have a smaller yard. Maybe no grass at all.
Yes.

No grass at all!

The title of the thread is that lawns are a waste of money. You then said xeriscaping costs too much. What landscaping choice do you advocate?

Next house I will be using rocks, native plants, herbs and mulch. I prefer the gym to the long hrs in the hot sun chasing after the perfect lawn.

Lawns suck. Just proves the mentality of our culture. Most people do things just because other people do it, even if it's harmful to the environment or cost a lot of time and money. Stop being sheep, people.

"stop being sheep

As I posted before, I ( and probably others) don't keep our lawn up just to "please the neighbors"

I do it because that is the way....I......like my property to be.

I do it now with a street in front of my house.
I did it when I had a long driveway and no one could see my lawn from the road.

Why do you anti-lawn people always try to shame those of us who like our lawns by accusing us of only trying to please the neighbors ?

same old,same old

Gets old after awhile.

I don't have a problem with people squandering their own time and money.

If they have to water it and then burn gas to keep it short, wasting those resources could be an issue.

Lawn upkeep may be necessary due to local ordinances or HOA rules.
