Peak oil happened around 2005, over 10 years ago. Since then, oil production has been dropping, with more developed nations now consuming it. Home electricity in the USA is still mostly from coal. Peak coal is sometime ahead, but production becomes more difficult and more expensive without oil to run the engines.

If "peak oil" is true then please explain all the new oil fields that've been discovered in just the last 5 years. Sorry, not buying it.

I do agree that we should get off of fossil fuels using CNG as a transition fuel until we figure out/develop the next fuel system be it fuel cell, mini reactors, matter/anti-matter with dilithium crystals or ???

I challenge you to live in Houston or Miami without AC. People used to do it, but they weren't happy about it.

Once oil is GONE, I guarantee you stuff, including AC, is still going to be running on electricity.

You have no AC, you must not live in one of the areas that gets 105-120 degrees during the day and "cools" to 75-85 degrees at night???

Every ac is precharged, not just ductless. That hardly makes it diy.

Please be careful when you consider one of these or their portable counterparts: they generate water via condensation. That water must be disposed of somewhere non-destructive (typically outdoors). Some sort of "method" for disposing of that water needs to be in place and the disposed of water NOT creating issues at its termination point.

No, not all A/C systems come pre-charged. It is not possible due to the fact that the high/low side lines as well as the coils/compressor come as separate units connected on site. Window/portable units do but that's certainly not "all" A/C.

Subsidy dumpsters and scraping the barrel. Fracking, shale, tar sands, deep offshore drilling, etc. require more energy to extract the oil and the collateral damage is more disastrous. Deepwater Horizon contaminated an entire sea. Fracking is contaminating watersheds.

Many areas will be uninhabitable, and others will be left to people who have always known and practiced how to live in harsh climates. Afternoon siestas, desert clothes, earth walls instead of stick framing, etc.
