Just understand that the metal shingles you got the quote for are not what most people think of when they hear ‘metal roof’. Where I live most people use the ribbed metal panels.

That's a great point. I have gone back to the estimator and asked for a quote for the more basic interlocking metal "panel" and forget the metal "shingles". Would be more like comparing apples to apples. We'll see what they say.

I’m my area, a Tuff-Rib metal roof on a 1300 sqft house would run about $8-10k installed.

For your area, if you're going to a more traditional metal roof, you're likely looking at either 5V or standing seam. 5V is the kind where you see the screws on the outside. A bit old school southern farmhouse look. Standing seam is what you usually see on commercial buildings when they have metal roofs. All fasteners are hidden beneath the seam but fair warning, standing seam is very, very expensive.
