Shouldn't need a new carburetor as the original ones are easily repairable. Most of the time, just need new seals and clean out the passageways.Adjust the float and idle screws and they usually will work fine.
The new carbs are so inexpensive, it's not worth the bother to fix the old one. I bought a kit for my Stihl that came with the carb, air filter, fuel filter, new fuel line, spark plug.... $16, delivered..... 15 minute job
Is it OK with the OP if I just continue to pay my expert, knowledgeable handyman to do these things for me? Please? Please? Please? He needs the work, his prices are reasonable, and I can easily afford to pay him for it....
One fewer person in the unemployment lines? Or maybe that outcome is just too awful for the OP to contemplate.
I have seen a lot of you peoples' handiwork on HGTV, oh yeah, the "do it yourself" crowd, the unpermitted electrical work and unpermitted home additions that cost tens of thousands to rip out and replace because some fool thought they could do it themselves. :P
Yeah those are the ones who give the people who "know" what they are doing a bad name
Anyway I am very lucky. My husband and I have saved literally hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years with the knowledge, determination, and work ethic that my husband has. He can do all mechanical work, build houses and do all aspects of construction(although we chose not to do it all), and fix computers
As for people hiring contractors that is great for you. Personally I cannot stand having to call for estimates, wait for them to show up...or not show up, maybe doing lousy work, dealing with strangers in my house and then finally getting them out of my house. I hate having to hire people and have others disrupt my time and my life. If I can do it myself I will.

Where I live they are always booked up, and it may be a month or two before they can get to you. Half the time they forget about you and never even call you back. Sometimes you have to do it yourself if you want it done at all.
If this is true, it is far cheaper to just replace a carburetor than to have it rebuilt. I wonder if I can get one for a 1980s troybuilt rotortiller?
