In our last house, my husband installed the Kronotex brand from Lowes. It looked beautiful and we only paid about $1.99 per square foot. There are some that come with the pad attached. He did a whole room in one weekend (about 500 sq feet). We always got compliments on it. We sold our house last October and that was one of the selling points. Laminate is very easy to clean. In this new house we are living in, the entire downstairs has hardwood. What a pain!! It is easily sratched, there was a leak in the kitchen sink and now the boards are buckling! Who was the genius who put in hardwood in the kitchen?? Thank goodness we don't own the house, but if we did, we would tear up the hardwood and install ceramic tile and laminate.
I highly recommend laminate esp, the Kronotex.
Hi JJingle, As a contractor, I would say Amstrong products are great, but there are compatable floorings a bit cheaper that will do an excellent job also. But if you are looking for a 4-5 years usage, it would be wise to go to one of your liquidation/discount store where you can pick up cheap laminate flooring with a five years waranty and have it in installed for about a $0.90 per sq. ft - labor and material should run you a lot cheaper than $4.00 per sq. ft.

You do realize that this thread is 4yo and it would be safe to assume that the OP has already done something with their floors?
