What am I missing here?

What you are missing is this very long recent thread on this very subject.

//www.city-data.com/forum/house...ve-garage.html

I park my car in the garage in winter. Other seasons i leave it in the driveway.

I would never park my car in the driveway or the street. Hate the sight of it. Of course I'm over the top - cannot stand to see screens in the front windows of people's homes so I know I'm the minority. Of course here in Texas, they build garages smaller than they used to and it seems 3/4 of Texans must drive big ass Silverados or Ford F150s - the newer ones are too damn big to get in a garage so, they are everywhere. I have a neighbor that parks 4 pick up trucks on the street.

I once had a listing that was 100 acres with a house and barn and small two-car garage built in the 1920's. The garage was just big enough for a couple of model T's. However, if you went around to the back of the garage, you could see a projection out one side of the back. Turned out that that was built onto the garage when they got the Packard!

I do wonder at people who are so obsessed with what other people do with their garages and cars. It's like they think that there must be something wrong with anyone who makes different decisions than they themselves do and chooses to live differently than they themselves do, even in something so minor as this.

Same space, some different stuff when we lived at one house. A car, motorcycle, riding mower, push mower, work bench, table saw, large tool box, and multiple shelving units fit. There was still a bit of floor space, too. The pickup was on the driveway.

most modern cars are too big for the garages that were built with the house, the only exceptions seem to be new houses built with double garages.

What?

You're only supposed to open the back windows?

The garage must be used for it's intended purpose but the windows are not to be used for theirs.

Who knew?

I know, I'm OCD. And yeah, I only open windows in the back or on the sides.
