we use the toaster oven a lot and a priority for me was size, the bigger the better. so i ended up getting this:

BLACK+DECKER TO3290XSD TO3290XSBD Toaster Oven 8-Slice Stainless Steel

the one issue i had was that the metal grates are too far apart, makes it harder to put smaller stuff like individual chicken nuggets on it without potentially falling. over time i got used to that and dont really notice it anymore. i paid about $100 for it and i see 200-300 is pretty common these days for stuff like the breville. it just didnt seem necessary to spend that much, i was perfectly happy with my previous toaster that was also an inexpensive black and decker.

Single person here. I like to bake small batches of cookies, etc. Don't cook large cuts of meat, since I don't eat much meat. I live in a small apartment, and use the range oven for storage.

My toaster oven is this one - https://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beac.../dp/B06WGNC8Q4

I like it because it will accommodate my small casserole dishes, which the similarly sized cuisinart wouldn't.

Haven't had a microwave in years, I find a toaster oven is much more useful.

Nope. Breville is the best.

I rarely toast bread unless I do it in a pan. I much prefer it that way. But I use my toaster oven for pizza, extra batch if cookies, cheese toast...a second smaller, oven. I have had a toaster oven ever since I moved into my first apartment. I can’t imagine not having one in my kitchen.

So, the gist is... toaster oven is MORE a smaller oven than a big toaster. Not something for my life then, thanks for the replies though.

How do you make cheese toast (French bread pizzas, reheat a small meal, etc.)? I mean you can use the broiler on the oven, but that seems very wasteful and takes longer than a toaster oven.

The Cuisinart has an oven light. My Breville does not.

I use mine for cooking breaded chicken breasts, tater tots/French fries, salmon, enchiladas, toasted cheese (think grilled cheese without the grill & butter), reheating pizza, oh, and of course, toast.

The main oven is too big for the little bit that I cook at a time. My oven is 15 years old & I've dusted it (interior), but never cleaned it.

My toaster oven is an older Cuisinart model TOB 160. It's discontinued. All the newer options I looked at last year were missing some feature I wanted (timer), or had a feature I found to be annoying (loud beeping).

The energy cost can be half or less for a toaster oven vs an electric stove (20-amp circuit vs 40-amp). The only things I put in the large oven are things that don't fit in the toaster oven. I can cook a 10" frozen pizza in the toaster oven.
