Do yourself a favor - find someone local to you to purchase a softener from. No, they won't be as cheap as the mail-order guys, but they'll actually install it (correctly) AND service it down the road. Look for the Fleck Econominder (my #1 valve choice) or the Clack (my far distant 2nd choice). I have Econominder's in the field that have been in service since the 70's. They can be readily repaired, and I use the same parts on a 40 year-old unit as I do one that's 10 years old. Avoid the "sxt" series valves - the last thing you need in your garage is a PC board!

The House Water Filter System uses the highest quality activated carbon. Our granulated coconut shell carbon filters are guaranteed to remove chlorine to undetectable levels for a period of 5 years or 1,000,000 gallons.

What about chloramine removal? And at what pH? Whole lot of presumptive claims, IMHO. And once the chloramine compound is removed, what precludes bacterial contamination downstream of the carbon bed?

Yes, you do - and you should clarify it when you make marketing claims about removal to the average layman - they do NOT understand the nuances, but those in the industry do, and we have a responsibility to educate, not just take money IMO.
