Hey all. Renovating the master bath and want to demo out the majority of a partial wall that runs parallel underneath a single joist.

The way the wall is constructed makes me think it is load bearing but everything else around its positioning in the house makes me think otherwise. The opening you see in the middle of the wall was where a shower window was. I think they did all this framing just to accommodate the window frame and nothing else.
  • It runs parallel with joists
  • It is a partial wall
  • it is adjacent and perpendicular to an exterior wall
  • there is no wall or anything of significant weight above it upstairs (Master Bath is 1st floor)

See pics below. Thoughts?

Not load bearing based on the photos. The wall with the ladder leaning against it IS load bearing.

I say with that header, it is a load bearing wall. Otherwise no need for the header.

What is sitting on the floor directly above the proposed wall wanting to be removed ? Stair landings, huge bath tub ? One also has to watch for structures like dormer walls or intersecting roofs where their load may bear down on a interior wall on the above story.

Directly above is a bedroom. Nothing of significance there.

No tub or in line wall.

Well, I think you would always frame any kind of opening with a header.

It's the amount of lumber and types that threw me off and made me pause.

Built like a tank.

Lol

The links in the post.

It's either load-bearing or way over-engineered, but there's not remotely enough context to say.

I do not think it is load bearing as it is installed on the underside of your joist which spans between load bearing walls at its ends; it is just heavy framing for what used to be the shower window.
