So the animal lover in me feels kinda bad for raccoons, they have a bad repuband I wanted to know what they’re good for. https://crittercleanout.com/what-are-raccoons-good-for/ does anyone know what else they’re good for?
Raccoons eat other pests, such as small rodents, keeping your yard free of a variety of problems.
And they're good at aggravating people by dumpster diving etal.

Historically, baked raccoon was once a favorite and treasured holiday treat for many southerners though it has all but disappeared from the southern dinner table in recent years.
It is like dark turkey meat, but fattier. It makes a very good stew

Opportunistic medium-sized predators like raccoons play big biological roles in local ecosystems. Just because humans don't happen to find them useful doesn't mean they aren't. No need to feel sorry for the bad rap raccoons get. They don't give a hoot what we think about them. They do provide almost endless entertainment. Clever, charismatic, full of chutzpah, courageous, what's not to like? Not when you are busy hating the one sneaking into your attic of course.

All scavenger animals have a very important role in our environment. Many, like vultures; have extremely acidic gastric enzymes that allow them to ingest decaying food that harbor dangerous bacteria.
Other cultures, such as the Native American's recognized the role of scavengers; they called the vulture (who gets a bad rap from most) the 'bird of peace' because they do not kill their prey.
Raccoons are much less social & dangerous to humans than bears are & don't pose as many risks to human health such as rats do & your other option for the animal dwelling under your backyard shed would likely be a family of skunks ... so in the big picture; raccoons aren't all that bad!
