We had a Hoover that lasted 2-3 years, then bought a Euerka Uno and got maybe 3-4 months out of that before it started smoking. We then went and got a Dyson DC-17, and man the amount of hair and dirt that pulled out of our rugs was amazing. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats as well as a 6 month old baby who is crawling everywhere. Well before the Dyson she would have fur all over her hands and face. Since we bought it there are hardly any hairs in the carpet, it is amazing. Just a tip we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and used the 20% off coupon on our dyson and saved $50-$60.

I installed a whole house vacuum system......a Nutone.
The wife loves it and will not go back to a portable one.

You might look on consumer reports as they did tests on alot of vacuum cleaners and the results are kind of surpiring, They didn't rate the Dyson very high and had many much less expensive ones higher. There higher cost best buys and top two were Kenmore with direct drive 35922 at $300 and the Kenmore with driect drive 36932 at $350. The best buy low cost Eureka Oxygen 3 at $150. The Dyson rated way down the list for cleaning and cost. They did not test any of the commerical models by hoover and Kirby.

We went to Sears and bought a Kenmore with direct drive 35923 (it has a longer cord than the 35922). Put it together and used it today. Super!!! The DW loves this vacuum.

I live in a sandy area on a highwat, It killed my Eurkea upright and almost killled by Rainbow, Now I have a shop vac, but I need more power, My step up is a real commercail vac.

I change furnace filters every two weeks and use the 3M that is reated 1200 or higher. It iakes pretty good care of bacteria, viruses, pet dander, pet hair, smoke, mold, dust mites and other no-see-ums. The higher the number the better. . With lung problems it is the best thing I do as it adds quality to life.

I've had a DC14 I believe Dyson for 4 years. Love it except for "Automatic" Carpet-height adjustment. Wish it was a manual adjustment, because some times it takes a minute or two to kick in the proper gear for the appropriate carpet. It also sucks up small floormats sometimes, and goes into that loud clicking sound after getting clogged.

Do any of the Dysons have a manual height adjustment for carpet?
