I am moving from california to Oregon for work. My employment begins fairly soon in a couple days and I still can't manage to find an apartment. Not sure what to do. Part of the reason is because I didn't want to have an apartment set in stone until I was licensed as I was studying for my boards. Thinking about quitting the job and staying back home or make the trip, live in my car for a bit then try to find apartments in the mean time. Don't know what to do.
This is the situation me and my husband were in when we moved from CA to Texas. He got a promotion and we had to do everything really fast. We had no home to move into, he had no car! We didn't have a car in CA because he couldn't afford one.
Anyway he ended up going on a rental site to look at homes to rent.he researched different neighborhood and cities. He spent a few days looking at different houses.
It can be done. Stay in a hotel and line up several apartment tours, preferably in one day and just pick the best one.
That you took boards would indicate a more professional type position, ask your future employer. My wife is in the medical field, we've made a few last-minute moves (and several temporary relocations) and in all cases they either offered or provided housing. So, ask if they have any ability to help you.

Exactly what I was going to say. Contact HR at your employer and see what resources they have.

Agreed.
I did a move to Oregon 25 years ago and my employer lined up a furnished apartment before I arrived. Someone should be able to assist.
