I roll and brush ours on, you have to stir it every so often while applying it.
That's not too far off what my neighbor has used on his home, however his siding is rough cut doug fir. It actually applies quite nicely.

I used Redwood Sierra semi transparent from Armstrong Clark. You can order a section of samples from the company. I used the selection to stain little pieces of wood and see which one I like best. The house looks nice.
