That's what I've seen over the years; but I only spec air switches in the particular scenario.
All i use is air switches. The last three kitchen renovations I specified air switches

But I strongly suggest removing the switch, disconnecting the airline, before cleaning. You don't want water getting into the air switch actuator itself.
Thanks for that. I had no idea there even was such a thing.

I have it on the side of the sink cabinet... Anyway as i know there are different models and maybe the position can change from model to model
If you are trying to choose the best one for you, check this site, it can be useful for other information I find it a very useful tool and will never regret installing it

The only positions I've seen are a regular light switch, either on the cabinet front near the sink, or on the backsplash. I haven't heard of "air switches" but it sounds like they're safer for wet and semi-wet locations? If so then it sounds like a real good idea.

I had one of those where the cover has the little prongs and you twist it to make the disposal start. After some years it became unreliable. Not to the point of absolutely refusing to start, but you had to get it JUST SO. And on occasion it wouldn't turn off and you'd have to fiddle around with the cover to finally get it to stop. I think having the mechanical part of the switch right up there next to water detergent (which can be somewhat corrosive) and food scraps is not a good long term choice. Also there has to be a sliding seal of some sort between the mechanical part and the electrical part, and sooner or later sliding seals wear and start leaking, or if it's a bellows sooner or later bellows crack and start leaking.
