There is a polyurethane type material that has stain in it. People use it to “renew” their cabinets. In my opinion it looks irregular and kind of dirty. Perhaps that’s the case here.
Upper cabinet doors are dirty looking, grease or whatever. Especially on right side. JMO.
How did those cabinets get so dirty! Are they throwing grease around. As someone said, I see no sign of an exhaust fan or just a hole in the wall. In other NYC kitchens (and bathrooms) I often see just a simple vent hole (no fan). Even with a fan, cabinets would still get dirty.
Looks like someone tried to polish up the cabinets using one of those spray polishes that leaves an oily film (silicone based perhaps?). They're advertised all the time but leave a residue on furniture. Esp bad on coated surfaces where the oil can soak in. Shows every touch and drip.

I could understand someone touching up before sale, and doing a bad job.
I hate the whole set-up of that kitchen. How are you supposed to reach for anything in the microwave if you're under 5'8" tall. And I have a thing about a stove & refrigerator next to each other. I wouldn't even buy a house that I loved if that was the set-up and it couldn't be changed. As for the cabinets, they look fine to me.
Never mind short people: how would any of you like to try to take a bowl of near-boiling soup out of that thing and safely set it down on the counter?
