Is choosing cabinet brands all about the material/look?
I am trying to decide between Timberlake Tahoe or Cascade and Merrillat Spring Valley and have NO idea what I am doing other than looking to see what looks best.
Any help on cabinet shopping and also these two brands specifically?
We have Timberlake Andover White and I can't say they've stood up well over the past 8 years. The finish has cracked on the inside edges of a few of the cabinets, and some cabinet doors have warped. All the hinges have remained solid and working well.
Our previous house had KraftMaid Ivory thermofoil, and they were having the same issues in only a year's time. But the hinges on many loosened up and I'd frequently have to take a screw driver to readjust.
If there's a need for some custom designing with stock cabinetry, we found that KraftMaid had more choices -- to customize with Timberlake was possible, but more expensive.
I have no personal experience with Merrillat, nor do I know if wood-finish cabinets would stand up better than the thermofoils/laminates that I've had.
Construction is what you consider along with how nice the cabinetry looks. The more real wood rather than manufactured wood the better. And simple things such as how shelves are held in place is another -- KraftMaid has annoying plastic clips whereas Timberlake has metal pins (oh so much easier!)
