Perhaps I misspoke. It's just a little, light clock. Something you'd see for 10 bucks at Target. Weighs less than one pound. I don't need to hammer anything into a stud.
So these Ook things (which cost $10 - $20 on Amazon... more than the clock cost), I can just hammer the Ook anywhere in the wall? With no regard to pipes?
I just want to be sure.
(Why are they called Ooks….. sounds a lot like Oops.... lol)
Obviously, it's the word 'hooks' without the 'h' ...as many Englishmen would probably pronounce 'hooks'.
Use a stud finder and when you think you found one, verify on each side there is one at 16 inches and if so, it will identify your wall framing and you should be good to go.
A good stud finder will also be able to verify both edges of the stud. Mine will do that accurately and its an older one!
Yeah, then when you've determined precisely where the stud is you'll know that a water pipe or electric wire you're trying to avoid could be anywhere in the 14 1/2" to the next one.

Hmmm, what did we just accomplish?
We just accomplished exactly where to safely place the fastener.... within the confines of the 1.5" stud hidden by the wall covering.

Simple, either attach where there is a stud, if that location works, or use a plastic drywall anchor in between the studs!
