Happened late yesterday the AC unit is on/off like every 10 minutes, the inside unit just keep running even the outside unit is shut off, could this be faulty thermostat ?

Any help in advance is greatly appreciate.

Something's probably tripping a thermal switch and resetting and tripping and resetting.


Not a thermostat issue, almost certainly.


You're going to need to call a service tech.

Maybe your drain clogged it sounds like.

It’s probably low on freon. There may be a leak or a corroded line. A good AC guy should be able to pressure test it

If the evaporator catch tray drain is clogged or slow, the tray will fill with water until it trips the safety switch, then allow restart when it drains below that level. Repeat, especially in high humidity.

As AC units are often in an attic or the like, you really don't want water overflowing up there... or even onto a roof, really.

OK, but that doesn't seem like a 10 minute cycle. I'm going to bet on a low refrigerant charge short cycling a low side switch.

It could be the cause, under a small set of circumstances. I'd bet on something that will make Joe the AC Guy happier, too.
