I paid $5600 for 14 windows in 2008. It was new construction so installation was not included. And I wish I had paid *a little* more for better made windows. But that should give you an idea of just how far off your bid is.

For replacing all windows with hurricane impact windows was around $30k, and they patched up the stucco and everything except the my friend was responsible for the paint. This is in Miami.
That’s a very very expensive option.

Many people do it though, even my house has all impact windows. Not only not have to worry about hurricane stuff, but difficult to break for someone wanting to break in, and they keep a whole lot of noise out, it actually is almost dead silent when they are all closed.

My condo I rent out has the impact sliding doors (no windows, only large doors to the balcony), and cannot hardly hear anything from the city (sits in the middle of the city).

I once owned a home that had some foggy double pane windows. The windows were about 20 years old. I got bids from two companies to repair the windows. Both were around $1000 for ten windows or so. They simply removed/replaced one pane, repaired/replaced the seals, and gave it a flush (I think they told me it was with nitrogen gas). Anyway, it took care of the issue. See this companies ad:

Asking for help with a guesstimate.

Pella, vinyl, double hung, 35.5 x 53.5, vinyl replacement window are about $300.00 ea. Installation cost seems about $300 per window according to some on this post, so about $600 per window, material and installation seems about right.

Several of my widows are app. 6ftW x 5ftH but consist of two windows side by side with a 6 in wide frame down the middle. Can I assume they are actually two 3ftW x 5ftH windows and could/would be replace separately?

My 1400sq ft, single story home has 8, 6ftW x 5ftH so I am assuming 16 3ftW x 5ftH so $4.8K (16 @ $300 ea.) for materials and $4.8K (16 @ $300ea.) for a total of $9.6K. Would I be close?

Thanks

Seems I see a lot of window replacement and bath refinishers advertising on my local evening new. Their ads are all the same. Some "spokesperson" interviewing someone from the company. They all close their ads with something like act fast and we can offer you something special like two free windows, no charge for optional shower grab bars, etc.

I went through it with bath remodelers myself several years back. I wanted a 6 year old garden tub removed and a large, walking shower installed in its place. I had 3 bath remodelers come in. Each was a salesman with samples, etc. They just would not stop talking. They all offered a deal for signing then and there. They were all about the same price of $6K and all had similar systems. I had no problem saying to each I have to think about your offer.

I called one back and told him I would offer $4.8K. He said let me work the numbers and I will call you back. He called back 10 minutes later at $5.2K. I said $4.8K and you can come over ASAP and I will sign the deal. He said let me rework the numbers again. He called back and said $4.8K but I need a signature today. I said fine. Come on over. Company based in NC with a local showroom. I have been very happy.

Yeah it pretty much boils down to either. My goose hunting buddy lives in Glasgow MT- when I go there I stay at his house in the guest room. One winter it was -36 and the wind was HOWLING (as it usually does in Glasgow). I was pretty amazed at his Pella windows- I put my hand on the glass and it didn't even feel cold.

We had Pella windows in our house back in WV. They were good units.

He also said that the company could probably work with me on the price and if I act by today he can cut down on the price a little.

The windows in my house aren't big. They're pretty average. I would just like to know from your experience is this a good price?
It's cheaper to have someone to repair the windows that are fogged with moisture. It'll be a few hundred dollars per window.

Nope. This is bull****. As others have suggested, price the windows yourself and then get a few quotes from regular contractors (not window "specialists").
